The other illustrations are antique B&W photos, bar one a bullock team painted by Max Middleton as recent as 1978, called "A Bullock Team Hauling Logs in Gippsland Forest, Victoria, 1978". It illustrates that JHS’ bullock team paintings still tend to be used in modern times to show such teams in colour and because they are delightful artworks. Middleton will not actually have met such team in 1978, but was clearly inspired by Scheltema’s paintings, having observed they were indeed often located in a Gippsland Forest. In Middleton’s picture the forest fine, but is less impressive, it is not clear what the team is actually dragging if anything and it is complete with the whip wielding driver, but without the dust thrown up being indicated, both so characteristically included in JHS’ bullock teams in action.
