What We Did On Our Holiday

Last Friday I rewatched, with father in law Noel, a delightful film that my wife had previously introduced me to. A good Friday film (read that how you wish). It is called What We Did on Our Holiday and it features Billy Connolly as a Scot (what else?) by the name of Gordy McLeod.

I won’t talk about the plot in the hope that you will watch it for yourself, but I will provide a couple of quotes from it . . .

* * * * * * * *
“The truth is, every human being on this planet is ridiculous in their own way. So we shouldn't judge, we shouldn't fight, because in the end... in the end, none of it matters. None of the stuff.”

- Gordy McLeod

“ . . . cos that's all death is good for. It's to give us a kick up the arse and say, ‘Get on with it, and love those around you.’ “

- Gordy McLeod

* * * * * * * *
“I used to tickle him and he'd go, ‘No, no, no!’ Then when I was finished, he'd go, ‘More, more, more, more!’  Which sums up exactly how I feel about living.”

- Gordy McLeod

“Mum and Dad swear all the time... - Mum used the c-word. And the other ones. ‘Tell that to your poxy effing c-word of a solicitor, you effing b-word. ‘ She thought I was in the garden but I was in the toilet peeing very quietly by aiming for the side of the toilet but not the water. Though I did miss a bit.”

- Mickey McLeod, talking of his parents' divorce battle.

Steve, I know that you previously told me that you didn’t like it but, everyone else, have a look at it if you get the chance.
