Movie Speech: The Princess Bride

(Another Fathers Day posting).

Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin) is a character in a wonderful movie The Princess Bride. At the point when he and the Dread Pirate Roberts propose to fight with swords, Inigo asks whether his opponent has six fingers on his right hand. He does not. Inigo explains that his father, a great sword-maker, had been commissioned by a 6 fingered man to make a sword. His father slaved at the work for a year, then the 6 fingered man offered one tenth of the agreed price. When his father refused, the 6 fingered man slashed his father through the heart. Inigo, who was eleven at the time, fought the man but was defeated. The man left him alive and left him the sword.

Inigo Montoya: I was eleven years old. When I was strong enough, I dedicated my life to the study of fencing, so the next time we meet, I will not fail. I will go up to the six-fingered man and say, "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
Dread Pirate Roberts: You've done nothing but study swordplay?

Inigo Montoya: More a pursuit than a study, lately. You see, I cannot find him. It has been twenty years now and I am starting to lose confidence. .
[Not long after the above conversation, Inigo meets the 6 fingered man, by name Count Rugen, and chases him through a castle. During the chase Count Rugen turns and throws a dagger at Inigo, the dagger striking him deeply in the stomach. Inigo falls back against the wall, his eyes glazing. Count Rugen recognises Inigo.]
Count Rugen: You must be that little Spanish brat I taught a lesson to all those years ago. It's simply incredible. Have you been chasing me your whole life only to fail now? I think that's the worst thing I ever heard. How marvelous.
[Inigo tries to stand.]
Count Rugen: Good heavens. Are you still trying to win?
[Inigo falls back against the wall. He pulls the dagger from his stomach and holds the wound with his left hand. Rugen with sword in hand moves in to kill Inigo.]
Count Rugen: You've got an overdeveloped sense of vengeance. It's going to get you into trouble someday
[Rugen lunges at Inigo who weakly parries the blade, which goes into his left shoulder. Again Rugen lunges at Inigo and the blade is again parried, this time into Inigo's right shoulder.
Count Rugen steps back for just a moment and watches as Inigo continues to inch his way to his feet. Just before the Count is about to strike again, Inigo manages a little flick of his own, causing Count Rugen to jump back. Inigo slowly pushes away from the wall.]
Inigo Montoya: [Whispered] My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father prepare to die.
[He falls on a table. Rugen attacks and Inigo blocks four times before he continues to advance on Rugen]
Inigo Montoya: [Louder] Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father prepare to die.
Now Rugen attacks five times and Inigo blocks each one.]
Inigo Montoya: [Louder] Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father prepare to die.
Count Rugen: Stop saying that!
[Rugen attacks and Inigo blocks it and then stabs Rugen in the shoulder. Rugen swings his sword, Inigo ducks and stabs Rugen in the other shoulder. Then he advances quickly and they fight]
Inigo Montoya: Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya! You killed my father prepare to die!
[Rugen gets his sword knocked away and Inigo slices his cheek]
Count Rugen: No!
Inigo Montoya: Offer me money
Count Rugen: Yes
Inigo Montoya: Power too, promise that!
[He slices Rugen's other cheek].
Count Rugen: All that I have and more. Please.
Inigo Montoya: Offer me everything I ask for.
Count Rugen: Anything you want.
[Rugen attacks but Inigo grabs his arm and stabs Rugen in the stomach]
Inigo Montoya: I want my father back you son of a bitch.
[Inigo plunges the sword deeper into Rugen's gut and Rugen falls down dead. Inigo looks down at Rugen and for the first time in the movie, he smiles.]
