I'm not a great fan of nostalgia that looks back to days gone by as great times compared to the present, conveniently forgetting all the crap that went with those times . . .  polio, smallpox, racism, sexism, inequality, abuse. . . 

Snopes.com refers to these type of messages as "glurge".

That said, I note that I posted an item in yesterday's Bytes that looked at modern reality, comparing what we have gained in today's world and what we have lost, so I realise that sets up a contradiction to what I said at the beginning of this post.

Here is another contradiction . . .
