15 Minutes of Fame:

A photo taken on New Year’s Eve in Manchester has been likened to a Renaissance masterpiece.

The Manchester Evening News published the photograph, taken by Joel Goodman, with a a whole lot of other pics of the worst parts of NYE in Manchester. BBC producer Roland Hughes commented that “So much going on this pic of New Year in Manchester by the Evening News. Like a beautiful painting.”  It grew from there.

The elements and composition are fascinating: the police with the man in the ground, the lady in the fur coat remonstrating, the man in blue on the ground reaching for his beer, the bystanders.

Not only has been compared to a Renaissance painting in what it shows, it has also been pointed out that the composition fits into the Golden Ratio:

It didn’t take long for the internet to pick up on it . . .

Much of the attention has been on the man in blue:

. . .but not all:

Surfing Santas:

An item I intended to post before Christmas but somehow didn’t get to is worth still bringing to attention, even if only for the fact that it is a world record for Oz.

In mid December 2015, the world record for surfing Santas stood at just under 250, according to the Guinness Book of Records.  That number was broken at Bondi when 320 people dressed as Santa took to the waves on boards.

Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!

A lost Santa suit.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, in fact, there's lots of them.
