Early on in his presidency, President Ronald Reagan came out of his room with a sidearm attached to his hip. The agent in charge said "Why the pistol Mr. President?" Ronald Reagan reportedly replied "In case you boys can't get the job done, I can help." It is also reported that it was common for Reagan to carry a pistol.
